Volunteer Spotlight

Without fail, Douglas Spencer walks into clinic every week with a huge grin on his face and a cheery greeting for everyone. Spencer has served as a medical assistant at RotaCare San Leandro for about 8 months now and has been a bright presence at our clinic.

Spencer served as a medic in the Navy from 1968-1972, completing 3 tours of duty in Vietnam. After he retired, his love for medicine motivated him to get his medical assistance certification.  Since then, he has used his training to volunteer at clinics in the San Leandro community. He instantly makes our patients feel comfortable with his friendly demeanor, and most importantly, he is always quick to provide kids with stickers after they’ve gotten shots!

Thanks to dedicated volunteers like Spencer, our clinic is able to continue providing quality care for our patients and making sure they walk out with a smile.
