The Monterey Peninsula RotaCare Clinic is fully staffed with volunteer physicians, including a pediatrician. Volunteer staff also includes nurses and clerical positions from the local Rotary Clubs and community. We are a non-invasive, acute care facility; however, we have many physicians that do pro-bono work for us outside the clinic as needed. Our transfer agreement with Community Hospital takes care of all our blood tests, x-rays, ultrasound and cardiograms. Because we have an agreement with corporate Walgreens, our patients pay nothing for their first prescription of medication, however additional prescriptions are paid for by the patient..

Interpretering as an Integral Part of Health Care

I volunteer as an interpreter because I love the patients and the fabulous volunteers. Helping at RotaCare makes my heart sing.

Many of our diabetic patients face incredible challenges throughout their lives. Along with their own chronic illness they often cope with various obstacles associated with poverty, discrimination and linguistical isolation within their new communities. And many of our patients often report having to cope with grief associated with loneliness and sometime even the loss of a family member living far away. It is easy to seee a patients frustration when they are unable to access health services or convey to a health provider their own health issues. It prevents them from being able to take proper care of themselves and their loved ones..

Our skilled volunteer interpreters are up to the task of stepping in and conveying the instructions from the providers and educators. Providing compassion and support go hand-in-hand asour volunteer interpreters communicate the nutrition and exercise changes patients must take to improve their health.
